BOISE, Idaho — A southwest Idaho woman has been charged with trying to hire someone to kill her husband.

Thirty-two-year-old Monique Christine Martinez of Nampa appeared in federal court in Boise on Thursday following her arrest at her Nampa home on Wednesday.

Authorities say that Martinez contacted an individual in California using Facebook to set up the killing of her husband.

Authorities say that on Oct. 17 she met an undercover FBI agent she believed to be a hit man and gave him $350 and promised an additional payment.

Authorities say she also provided times and locations to kill her husband.

Martinez is being held in the Ada County Jail until a detention hearing on Monday.

Her federal public defender, Mark Ackley, didn't return a call from The Associated Press on Thursday.
