Police: Boy, 17, shot and wounded; 7 held after fight near Southcenter Mall


TUKWILA, Washington — Police in the south Seattle suburb of Tukwila say a 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded and seven people were held after a fight near Southcenter Mall.

The Seattle Times reports ( ) that police responded Tuesday afternoon to reports of more than a dozen people fighting in a parking lot.

The teens and young adults had left by the time officers arrived, but police then heard multiple gunshots. An officer pursued a fleeing car.

Other officers searched for possible victims and found a boy who had been shot in the lower back. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in serious condition.

The pursuit ended at a transfer station where the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled. Police detained four young men, a female teen and two other people. Police said they would be booked for investigation of assault.
