Police identify man fatally struck by a box truck on Route 135 in Ashland


ASHLAND, Massachusetts — Police have identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a box truck in Ashland.

The MetroWest Daily News ( ) reports that John Fleming, of Upton, was identified by police through his fingerprints on Tuesday.

Fleming was killed Monday after he was hit by the truck on Route 135 in the area of Indian Spring Road. He was transported to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and was eventually pronounced dead.

Police are still unsure why Fleming was walking on the busy stretch of road at 4:31 a.m.

The truck's driver was uninjured. No charges have been filed.

An investigation is ongoing.
