State police: Woman dies when Morehouse Parish sheriff's deputy tries to stop her for speeding

BASTROP, Louisiana — State police say a 63-year-old Bastrop woman died overnight when a Morehouse Parish sheriff's deputy tried to stop her for speeding.

Trooper Albert Paxton says Patricia Porter of Bastrop was traveling south on La. Highway 139 south of Bastrop late Monday night when a deputy observed her traveling at a high rate of speed. Paxton says the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop but was unsuccessful. He says the car continued traveling south before it ran off the road, struck a culvert and flip over several times.

Paxton says Porter was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Morehouse Parish Coroner's Office.
