53-year-old truck driver from Connecticut struck and killed by tractor-trailer in parking lot


ANDERSON, South Carolina — A former Marine from Connecticut was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in the parking lot of a truck stop in South Carolina.

The Anderson Independent-Mail reports ( ) that 53-year-old Garbin Libert of New Haven, Connecticut, was walking from the Love's Travel Stop store to his truck in Fair Play when a tractor-trailer ran over him about 4 a.m. Thursday.

Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman says Libert was carrying postcards addressed to his mother and niece.

Boseman says Libert died at the scene of blunt-force injuries. Libert was pinned under the tractor-trailer.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Gary Miller says no charges have been filed against the driver, 37-year-old Tony Oglesby of Memphis, Tennessee. Oglesby told authorities he didn't see Libert, who was wearing a black shirt and jeans.
