Jackson County deputy accused in assault case pleads guilty, receives suspended sentence, fine

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi — A Jackson County sheriff's sergeant pleaded guilty to misdemeanor simple assault and received a six-month suspended sentence, with orders to pay a $250 fine.

In addition, Special Judge Samac J. Richardson on Monday placed Sgt. Jackie Trussell on six months non-reporting post-release supervision.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/18P5RtA) Trussell was commander of the now-defunct Narcotics Task Force of Jackson County when he was accused in a July 31 assault of another task force agent.

According to reports, Trussell shot a round at the feet of Agent Chad Powell, who had "poked" at him with a needle at the task force's Pascagoula office.

Powell was wounded by concrete fragments.
