Accomplice in 2010 prison break to return to Arizona to be sentenced on state charges

KINGMAN, Arizona — The accomplice in an Arizona prison break is returning to Mohave County to be sentenced on escape and robbery charges.

Casslyn Welch is expected in Arizona no later than Feb. 20. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Steven Conn agreed to sentence Welch after she resolved federal carjacking and murder charges that stemmed from her time on the lam in New Mexico.

Under an agreement with Arizona prosecutors, the 48-year-old Welch will receive 20 years in prison on an escape charge and two counts of armed robbery. It will run concurrent to her 40-year sentence in the federal case.

Welch has admitted that she helped three inmates from the Kingman prison escape by throwing cutting tools over a fence. She and two of the men later kidnapped two truck drivers at gunpoint.
