Centralia woman gets year in prison for failing to protect daughter, 2, from boyfriend's abuse

CHEHALIS, Washington — A Centralia woman whose 2-year-old daughter was killed by her boyfriend was sentenced Thursday to a year and a day in prison for criminal mistreatment.

KOMO reports (http://bit.ly/16Cqe0J) the Lewis County prosecutor said Becky Heupel failed to protect Koralyn Fister from abuse. She died last May from a blow to the head and drowning in a bathtub.

Heupel's boyfriend, James Reeder, admitted there was evidence to convict him of rape and murder charges and was sentenced in March to 37 years in prison.
