GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney visits Fort Lupton oil company to promote energy policy

FORT LUPTON, Colo. — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney says President Barack Obama's energy policies have been a failure and he's promising to promote oil and gas production if he wins the November election.

Romney is visiting the Colorado field office of K.P. Kauffman Co., an oil and gas production and drilling company active in Rocky Mountain states. During an interview on KOA-AM on Wednesday, Romney said the U.S. economy is coming back and energy is a big part of his plan.

Colorado Democratic Party chairman Rick Palacio said Wednesday that Romney wants to protect oil and gas companies at the expense of middle class Americans.

This is Romney's first campaign appearance in Colorado since February's caucuses, where he lost to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who has since left the race.
