Life sentence for convicted rapist who broke into Seattle home, threatened women

SEATTLE — A convicted rapist who broke into a house in Seattle's University District and threatened six young women with a knife has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Robert Hitt was convicted last month on charges including kidnapping, robbery and burglary in the March 2012 attack. He was sentenced Friday.

The break-in came just two months after Hitt was released from prison after serving time for a rape conviction.

The Seattle Times reports (http://is.gd/yZhtaD ) that because two of the charges in the home invasion carried sexual-motivation allegations, Hitt faced an automatic mandatory life sentence under Washington's "two strikes" law for repeat sex offenders.

At his sentencing, it was revealed that Hitt had tried to commit suicide early Friday morning by cutting his arms with a razor in the King County Jail.
