Bus driver charged in fatal hit-and-run at Newark airport parking lot; victim starting new job

NEWARK, New Jersey — An arrest has been made in a November hit-and-run death in a parking lot at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The victim was 61-year-old Jeffrey Zeisler of Howell, New Jersey He was killed shortly after arriving at the airport before dawn to catch a red-eye flight to attend training for a new job.

Police have arrested the driver of a shuttle bus that served the long-term parking lot where the accident occurred.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Fidel Ortez of West New York is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and endangering an injured victim. They say he failed to stop and give Zeisler aid.

Ortez told The Star-Ledger newspaper he had alerted his dispatcher when he saw the victim on the pavement. He's free on $50,000 bail.
