Scott reinstates Osceola County court clerk after his acquittal on assault, battery charges

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Rick Scott has reinstated Osceola County's court clerk after he was acquitted on assault and battery charges in two separate trials.

Scott signed an order Friday rescinding Malcolm Thompson's Jan. 30 suspension.

Thompson was accused of shoving an administrative assistant after the woman objected to his directive that she take down a display of Christmas cards.

He also denied his comments at the staff meeting were threatening.

He also was accused of threatening his human resources director when they discussed the Christmas card incident.

A Florida Department of Law Enforcement report said Thompson acknowledged he had pushed the woman but told them it was all a joke.

The first-term Democrat is facing two primary opponents in his bid for re-election. Four Republicans also are running.
