4 people who died in 4-vehicle crash includes 16-year-old teen and his grandparents

LEXINGTON, South Carolina — Authorities say a four-vehicle crash in Lexington County killed four people and injured two others.

According to the Highway Patrol, a pickup truck crossed the center line of U.S. Hwy. 378 about 6 p.m. Friday and side-swiped a van before colliding with a Ford sport utility vehicle, which caught fire. The van spun out of control and struck a GMC SUV.

Coroner Margaret Fisher says all occupants of the Ford SUV died at the scene. They were 16-year-old Steven Gunnells and his grandparents, 73-year-old Harry Gunnells and 74-year-old Barbara Gunnells of Saluda.

The coroner says 62-year-old Robert Moore of Leesville was driving the pickup truck. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fisher says the drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
