Mississippi Valley State uses second-half run to put away Alcorn State, 74-62

ITTA BENA, Mississippi — Mississippi Valley State beat Alcorn State 74-62 on Saturday.

The Delta Devils (5-20, 4-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference) snapped a two-game losing streak, but have won three of their last five games after starting the season 2-15.

MVSU avenged an 87-67 loss on Jan. 17 to Alcorn State (5-19, 4-8), which has lost six of its last seven.

The Braves led 25-23 with about six minutes left in the first half, but MVSU used a 10-0 run to take the lead for good and had a 38-30 advantage at the break.

Alcorn State trailed by five with fewer than three minutes into the second before Mississippi Valley State took control by scoring 11 straight, opening up a 51-35 lead with 14:30 remaining and the Braves never recovered.
