Police say man shot and wounded after raising handgun toward Roanoke officers

ROANOKE, Virginia — Roanoke police say a man was shot and wounded after he raised a handgun toward officers.

Police say man was shot twice in the left leg and once in the right leg around 2:05 a.m. Sunday. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Media outlets report that police identified the man as 18-year-old Reginald Alan Wilson of Roanoke.

The shooting occurred near a residence where a fight broke out at a private party.

Police say officers approaching the scene to disperse the crowd heard gunshots. One man ran away and encountered three officers behind a building.

Police say the man didn't comply with commands to drop a handgun. Two officers fired at him after he raised the gun in their direction.

The shooting is under investigation.
