FREDERICKSBURG, Virginia — A sewage spill in in Stafford County has led to the closure of several access points to the Rappahannock River.

The Free Lance-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1fEB6Bv ) Old Mill Park and City Dock in Fredericksburg were closed Tuesday in response to the spill. The Historic Port of Falmouth Park has also been closed and will remain closed through Thursday.

The spill resulted from the failure of a plug in a pipe system. Stafford County says the leak has been repaired and plans are being made for permanent repairs to prevent any future failures.

The county says there is no evidence of sewage contamination of the river at the Historic Port of Falmouth Park.

Stafford County is conducting precautionary tests to ensure the water is safe before the park is reopened to visitors.
