Rhode Island residents can again begin enrolling for health insurance on state website

PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — Rhode Island residents looking for health insurance can again begin visiting the state's health insurance online marketplace.

Saturday marks the start of the new open enrollment period under President Obama's health care law.

HealthSource RI, the state's health insurance exchange, reopens for existing customers as well as individuals, families and small businesses seeking coverage. The open enrollment period runs through Feb. 15.

More than 26,000 people signed up for coverage in the first year of HealthSource RI, set up as part of the federal Affordable Care Act. Another 2,400 people were covered through small businesses that bought insurance on the exchange.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, United HealthCare and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island are offering plans through the exchange.
