Man, girl seriously injured when ATV overturns


TRENTON, Florida — Authorities say a north Florida man and a 5-year-old girl were seriously injured in an ATV crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 39-year-old Benjamin Tompkins was driving an ATV Saturday on private property in Gilchrist County. The Gainesville Sun ( ) reports that passengers in the vehicle were another adult, an 11-year-old boy and the 5-year-old girl.

The ATV overturned, ejecting Tompkins and the girl. They were both taken to a Gainesville hospital. Tompkins was in serious condition and the girl was in critical.

FHP says the other two passengers on the ATV were properly restrained and were not ejected from the ATV.
