New Orleans Police start new recruit class, third this year


NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department welcomes another recruit class.

Class #172 will begin training Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with 32 new recruits. The recruits will undergo training eight hours a day, Monday through Friday, for 26 weeks.

This is the third recruit class launched this year and seventh since 2010. Superintendent Michael Harrison, Mayor Mitch Landrieu and others say the new class is a result of a promise to continue to grow the department through aggressive recruitment and hiring.

Class #173 is nearing completion and expected to graduate 30 recruits in December.
