Mavin has career-high 27 points as FIU pulls away from Florida Gulf Coast 69-63

FORT MYERS, Florida — Dennis Mavin scored a career-high 27 points and Florida International used a 12-0 run in the second half to take control for a 69-63 win over Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday.

The Panthers (6-4) were trailing 41-37 when Marvin drove for a layup at the 12:38 mark. Dominique Williams had consecutive baskets for the lead and when Marco Porcher Jimenez hit a 3-pointer at 8:35 it was 49-41.

The Eagles (8-2), who suffered their first home loss, got back within three but Mavin answered quickly with a layup and Porcher Jimenez hit another 3 and FGU couldn't make the stops for a final run.

Porcher Jimenez had four 3s and 14 points.

Brett Comer scored a quick nine to get FGCU off to a 22-8 lead but picked up his second foul and the Panthers got within 32-28 at the half. Mavin and Porcher Jimenez had 20 of FIU's points.
