A Merritt Island, Fla., woman dies in a single-car crash early Thursday morning


MERRITT ISLAND, Florida — Police say a 36-year-old Florida woman was killed after the car she was driving rammed into a traffic signal pole in Brevard County, Florida

Jessica Herbert, of Merritt Island, Florida, suffered fatal injuries following the crash on Thursday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a statement.

She was driving alone in a 2005 Nissan Altima about 3:45 a.m. when she drove off the road and crashed the vehicle into the traffic signal pole at the intersection of State Road 520 and Kiwanis Island Park Road, police said.

Authorities said she was not wearing a seat belt and that the investigation is pending as to whether the crash was alcohol-related crash.
