WENTWORTH, North Carolina — Rockingham County authorities accuse a woman of leaving her two young children at home alone while she went to work.

The sheriff's office says 26-year-old Jessica Lynn Jessup is charged with misdemeanor child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of minors and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Wednesday.

Cpl. Kevin Suthard said the sheriff's office received a call Wednesday morning saying two children may have been left unattended at a Reidsville home. When deputies reached the home, they found a 5-year-old and an 11-month-old inside. Investigators think the children had been alone for nearly three hours.

The county department of social services placed the children in the custody of a family member.

Jessup is jailed under a $2,500 secured bond. Southard said she doesn't yet have an attorney.
