BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut — Sean Armand scored 28 points and David Laury had 19 along with 10 rebounds and Iona beat Fairfield 83-72 on Sunday.
Armand hit 9 of 17 from the field and went 9 for 11 from the line_adding to his 21.2 season scoring average_in this Mid-American Athletic Conference match-up.
Iona (5-2, 2-0) jumped out to a 17-7 advantage, but Fairfield (1-8, 0-2) surged back to take the lead before Iona tied it at 31 and then built a nine point, 46-37 halftime lead.
Iona, who won their MAAC opener against Marist on Tuesday, extended the momentum gained leading into the break as Fairfield went flat and trailed by 22 points midway through the second. The Stags moved closer to Iona in the final minutes but the effort was too little-too late and the visiting Gaels beat Fairfield by 11 points.
Maurice Barrow scored 26 points for Fairfield.
