RALEIGH, North Carolina — A man charged after a bullet passed through a motel wall, killing a North Carolina teen, is expected to appear in court.

Area media outlets report that 42-year-old Randall Louis Vater of Knightdale, North Carolina, has a court appearance scheduled for Monday. He is charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities say 13-year-old Nathan Andrew Clark of Lewisville, North Carolina, was at a motel in Raleigh when he was hit by a bullet late Friday night. Police say a gun went off in an adjacent room. When they arrived at the scene at about 11 p.m. the youth was dead.

Vater was being held at the Wake County jail. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
