Broward Sheriff's Office holds shred-a-thon, prescription drug take back event

PEMBROKE PINES, Florida — The Broward Sheriff's Office is holding a shred-a-thon and prescription drug take back event in Pembroke Pines.

Anyone in the area can turn in unused or expired prescription medication to receive a $5 gift card during the program called Operation Medicine Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the Shred-A-Thon allows residents to get rid of their check stubs, credit card offers and other documents with their personal information. This service is free but limited to five boxes per person.

The event is being held at the Pembroke Lakes Mall.

Such events are held across the state and began in Broward County in 2008 as a joint initiative by the Broward Sheriff's Office and the Florida Attorney General's Office.
