EAGLE, Idaho — A southwest Idaho fire department captain has died following complications from back surgery for an injury he received responding to an emergency.
The Eagle Fire Department says 36-year-old Brandon Erickson died Thursday following the surgery on Wednesday.
Fire department spokeswoman Andrea Dearden says Erickson was initially injured in June of 2012 moving gear while responding to a motorcycle crash.
Erickson started working at the Eagle Fire Department in April 2013 after spending the previous five years with the Meridian Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic.
Eagle Fire Chief Mike Winkle says Erickson was one of the best instructors and his death is a tremendous loss for the agency.
Erickson is survived by his wife, son and daughter.
