Villarreal beats Deportivo 3-0 for 5th straight win in Spanish league

BARCELONA, Spain — Villarreal striker Luciano Vietto scored two goals to secure a comfortable 3-0 win over visitors Deportivo La Coruna in the Spanish league on Sunday.

Villarreal's fifth straight victory in the league lifted it to a provisional fifth place, while Deportivo remained one point above the relegation zone.

Jonathan Dos Santos finished off the rebound of Denis Cheryshev's shot to give Villarreal the lead in the 10th minute.

Villarreal made it 2-0 when Vietto tapped in a low cross from Victor Ruiz in the 68th. The Argentine struck again from a similar pass by Cheryshev five minutes later for his seventh league goal of the season.

Villarreal substitute Tomas Pina received a direct red for a tackle in the 80th.

Atletico Madrid visits Athletic Bilbao later.
