Bright scores 24, Saint Mary's pushes past Loyola Marymount 72-63, improves to 4-0 in WCC play

LOS ANGELES — Aaron Bright finished with 24 points and six assists as Saint Mary's pushed past Loyola Marymount 72-63 on Saturday.

The Gaels (11-3, 4-0 West Coast) shot 41.1 percent from the field and Bright sank 6 of the team's 11 3-pointers. Kerry Carter chipped in 17 points, Brad Waldow had 13 with 11 rebounds and Garrett Jackson added 11 points.

Evan Payne paced the Lions (4-11, 0-3) with 24 points, David Humphries had 10 and Chase Flint dished out seven assists. Loyola Marymount shot 43.6 percent overall, but went just 4 of 12 from deep.

Bright and Carter each sank a pair of 3-pointers to jump out to a 14-4 lead early. The Lions pulled within three after Payne's jumper to open the second half, but Carter followed with a three-point play and two 3-pointers to go back up by 10. Saint Mary's led comfortably the rest of the way.
