Heavy rain, flash flooding expected in north and central Georgia

ATLANTA — Forecasters are warning of heavy rain and flash flooding in several areas of north Georgia.

The National Weather Service is warning of heavy rain in several metro Atlanta counties through Thursday evening. Forecasters say a set of thunderstorms from Powder Springs to Riverdale was moving east at about 15 mph.

Forecasters say they're expecting between 1 and 1 ½ inches of rain throughout much of metro Atlanta.

Forecasters have also issued a flash flood warning for Gilmer County in north Georgia that's expected to expire Thursday night.
