Police say 5 wounded, 1 critical, after shooting at private party in New Haven early Sunday


NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — Police say five people have been shot and wounded, one critically, at a private party in New Haven overnight.

Police said they were called to 849 Chapel Street at about 2 a.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting in a private area on the second floor above the Evolution Tattoo Parlor. They found a large number of people fleeing to the street.

Three people were taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, and two others arrived by private car. Witnesses told police two groups were seen arguing during the party and were separated by private security guards.

Police said 21-year-old Jaime Rodriguez is listed in critical condition with gunshot wounds in his lower back, knee, groin and thigh.

Four others have non-life-threatening wounds. They are 25-year-old Joshua Agosto, 28-year-old Gerald Pugh, 23-year-old Jovanni Leon Vargas, and 30-year-old Hector Martinez.
