MURFREESBORO, Tennessee — Authorities are investigating the death of an inmate at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine tells local media outlets that 56-year-old Michael Murray died Friday.

DeVine says a preliminary investigation shows Murray killed himself inside a cell during recreation time.

DeVine says jail staff found Murray unresponsive. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

DeVine says TBI agents will turn investigative findings over to the District Attorney General.

Rutherford County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni says Murray was indicted on three counts sexual battery by an authority figure and one count solicitation for aggravated sexual battery.

On Jan. 30, the TBI was called to the facility to investigate the death of another inmate who authorities said killed himself.
