Chicago police kill man they say tried to run over officers while fleeing scene of shooting

CHICAGO — Chicago police officers have shot and killed a man who they say tried to run them over while fleeing the scene of a shooting.

A statement released by the Chicago Police Department says two officers on a routine patrol Saturday on the Lower West Side saw shots being fired from one vehicle into another.

Police say the vehicle struck several parked cars as the suspects fled and at one point reversed to strike the pursuing officers, who then opened fire. One of the officers was injured.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the driver of the fleeing vehicle was shot and killed. Other suspects were detained.

Police say a handgun was found in the vehicle.
