CROWN POINT, N.Y. — The man who designed the replacement Lake Champlain Bridge linking New York and Vermont will give the keynote address at this weekend's celebration of the span's opening.
Ted Zoli will speak during Saturday morning's opening ceremony being held on the New York side of the bridge at the Crown Point State Historic site, location for many of the weekend's events. Others are being held on the Vermont end of the bridge at the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison.
Zoli, an Adirondack native who grew up in Glens Falls, came up with the bridge's distinctive network arch design. The new bridge opened last November, but organizers decided to hold off until May to hold the two-day celebration.
The original Lake Champlain Bridge was demolished in December 2009, two months after being deemed unsafe.
