LAVERGNE, Tennessee — A Middle Tennessee woman is facing charges of murder, abuse and neglect in the death of her newborn daughter.

Media report a Rutherford County grand jury returned an indictment on Monday against Shenekia Parks of La Vergne in the 2014 death.

Police said the original call was for an unresponsive woman, who was taken to a local hospital where it was determined that she had given birth. Police say they returned to Parks' home and found the newborn deceased.

Detective Stephen Hale says officers found evidence that the mother was involved in the child's death. He says the evidence was presented to the grand jury, which decided to indict Parks.

She is being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center. It wasn't immediately clear whether she has an attorney.
