Parents indicted, arrested in Greene County in death of 8-month-old daughter last year

GREENEVILLE, Tennessee — The parents of an 8-month-old girl who died last September have been arrested in Greene County on murder charges in the child's death.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 24-year-old Stephen Jennings of Greeneville and 24-year-old Pooja Jennings of Chuckey were booked into the Greene County Jail Friday on $1 million bond each.

They are charged in the death of Abby Jennings, who was unresponsive and had bruising and was taken by Greene County emergency medical service to Laughlin Hospital and moved to Johnson County Medical Center on Sept. 17. TBI says she died the next day.

Stephen Jennings is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child neglect and aggravated child abuse. Pooja Jennings is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated child neglect.

TBI says the Jenningses are married but separated.
