Parts of New Mexico to remain under winter warnings through Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — More snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected for some parts of New Mexico.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service say the wintry weather will persist through early Saturday, making for treacherous driving conditions.

Slick and icy roads were reported Friday along Interstate 40 east of Albuquerque and across the eastern plains, and Carlsbad Caverns National Park announced it would close two hours early due to the weather.

Forecasters had issued winter storm and freezing rain advisories for north-central New Mexico and the eastern part of the state. They also warned of ice storms along the Texas-New Mexico border.
