Cape Girardeau City Council chooses bow hunting inside city limits to reduce deer population

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Cape Girardeau is one step closer to allowing some deer hunting within city limits.

The city council on Monday night directed the city staff to draft an ordinance to allow bow hunting of deer inside city limits. The details are not final but the proposal would allow trained residents to bow hunt on private property with the owner's permission.

The Southeast Missourian reports (http://bit.ly/Jtjrwh ) the proposal would have to survive two more votes of the full council, which would give the public two more chances to discuss the urban deer hunt.

Opponents wanted the city to trap and euthanize the deer.

If approved, the urban deer hunt would be effective in the fall.
