JUNEAU, Alaska — Alaska's unemployment rate reached 6.7 percent in April, up from March but lower than the same time last year.

The state labor department says the recent up-and-down nature of Alaska's unemployment rate makes it difficult to identify a clear trend, though the department, in a release, says 2015 could be on a similar trajectory as last year.

The first part of 2014 saw unemployment at 6.9 percent, cresting at 7 percent, before edging lower and ending the year at 6.4 percent.

The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.5 percent for March. It was 6.9 percent in April 2014.

The U.S. unemployment rate for last month was 5.4 percent.
