Winthrop University holds inauguration ceremony for new president


ROCK HILL, South Carolina — Winthrop University is holding an inauguration ceremony for new president Jamie Comstock.

The ceremony Friday afternoon was to include a procession of Winthrop faculty as well as delegates from other colleges and universities, The Herald of Rock Hill ( reported.

Comstock was chosen in February of last year as the 10th president of the Rock Hill school, replacing Anthony DiGiorgio, who retired last June. She's been at the school for eight months.

The inauguration events include a speech by Comstock, various musical selections, the introduction of special guests and a reception on campus.

Winthrop's presidential medallion is bronze and includes the university's seal on the front.

Comstock came to Winthrop after serving as director of the Executive Leadership Group at the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C. She was on sabbatical from her previous role as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Butler University in Indianapolis.
