Several NC cities hold mayoral races, including Charlotte, Fayetteville and Durham

RALEIGH, North Carolina — Several cities are holding mayoral races, including North Carolina's largest municipality.

Tuesday's vote will determine whether Democrat Jennifer Roberts or Republican Edwin Peacock will lead Charlotte into a new period following the downfall of their predecessor in a corruption scandal.

In Fayetteville, it's a rematch of 2013 when Nat Robertson narrowly defeated Democrat Val Applewhite to become the city's first Republican mayor since 1975.

Durham Mayor Bill Bell faces challenger James Lyons, who was a distant second in the October elections when Bell got 86 percent of the vote. Lyons is a Time Warner Cable employee who led three challengers with 8 percent of the vote.
