Spearhead Trail progress pushes ahead to become part of ATV mecca in southwest Va

POCAHONTAS, Virginia — Work is progressing on a southwest Virginia trail that's poised to be a haven for all-terrain-vehicle riders.

Officials with the Southwest Regional Recreation Authority say the Spearhead Trail project is coming along but there's still work to be done before construction can begin. They've secured an agreement that will allow the trail to go through the property of the prison in Pocahontas and they're working on another land agreement.

Executive Director Chuck Riedhammer told the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (http://bit.ly/18q1CHw ) that the Hatfield-McCoy Trailhead in nearby Bramwell, West Virginia, also will help funnel riders into the Spearhead Trail. He says the trails will create some significant economic development for the area such as lodging, gas stations and restaurants.
