Ex-chief who did prison time after abuse charges pleads guilty to harassment

SCRANTON, Pennsylvania — A former northeastern Pennsylvania police chief who spent more than 20 months in prison after he was accused of sexually molesting a teenage girl has reached a plea deal with prosecutors that will spare him more time behind bars.

The Times-Tribune of Scranton ( reports that former Old Forge Police Chief Larry Semenza agreed Thursday to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of harassment. He was immediately sentenced to time served.

Prosecutors accused Semenza of assaulting a teenage girl on multiple occasions between 2004 and 2007.

A jury convicted him of two misdemeanor counts, but cleared him of more serious charges including aggravated indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor.

The conviction was thrown out by an appeals court last month, and he was released on bail last week.
