MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of central and east Alabama as thunderstorms pass through the region.

Forecasters say 12 counties are covered by the tornado watch, including Montgomery, Lee and Russell counties. The tornado watch is expected to expire at 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service also issued a wind advisory through 6 p.m. for an area including Mobile, Bay Minette, Spanish Fort and many others. Forecasters say they're expecting winds of up to 30 mph.

Forecasters say the storm is capable of producing high waves and rip currents along the Alabama coast, along with flash flooding in some areas.
