BILLINGS, Montana — A judge has denied real estate mogul Tim Blixseth's request to be freed from a Montana jail after he was found in contempt of court.

U.S. District Judge Sam Haddon turned down the emergency request from Blixseth's attorneys on Monday.

The 64-year-old founder of Montana's Yellowstone Club has been in the Missoula County jail since Thursday. That's when Haddon said the former billionaire hasn't fully accounted for $13.8 million he received when a property in Mexico was sold in violation of a court order.

Blixseth says he no longer has the money and can't retrieve documents related to the sale because they're in Mexico.

Creditors are trying to collect on $241 million in judgments against Blixseth stemming from the Yellowstone Club's 2008 bankruptcy. The club is now under new ownership.
