Ex-prison teacher pleads guilty to drug charge; smuggled heroin for inmate she had sex with

FORT EDWARD, New York — A 25-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to smuggling heroin into an upstate New York prison where she taught vocational classes and was having a sexual relationship with an inmate.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports ( ) that Kimberly Ricci of Salem pleaded guilty in Washington County to a felony drug count.

She was charged earlier this year with promoting prison contraband and rape after state police said she had been smuggling heroin and hypodermic needles into the medium-security Washington Correctional Facility in Comstock, where she worked as a vocational instructor.

Officials say she used the drugs with an inmate in an area where she instructed prisoners. Investigators say she was having sex with the inmate.

The rape charge was brought because it's illegal for prison staff to have sexual contact with inmates.
