IRON RIVER, Michigan — Authorities say the body of an 87-year-old man who failed to return from ice fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has been found.

The Daily News of Iron Mountain and WLUC-TV report Albert John Melchiori of Iron River went fishing Monday evening at Chicagon Lake in Iron County and wasn't heard from since. Family members reported him missing Tuesday and his body was found Wednesday.

Sheriff Mark Valesano says Melchiori's truck was parked along the shoreline at a camp from which he accessed an ice fishing shack by off-road vehicle. A Coast Guard helicopter spotted the ORV, which had fallen through the ice, and Melchiori's body was nearby.

Valesano says officials believe Melchiori became disoriented due to heavy fog and drove his ORV onto unsafe ice along the shoreline.
