Thunderstorms zap power to thousands of customers in Auburn area


AUBURN, Alabama — Authorities said thunderstorms that rolled across Alabama Monday evening knocked out power to more hundreds of customers in the Auburn area.

Alabama Power Co. representative Mike Jordan said about 1,650 Alabama Power customers were without service in the Auburn area around 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports ( that by 7:40 p.m. Monday, power had been restored to the majority of customers in the Auburn area. Crews were working Monday night to resolve the remaining outages.
