YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — An Ohio court has denied the appeals of a mother and her ex-boyfriend sentenced in the beating death of the woman's 14-year-old son.

The 7th District Court of Appeals this week denied appeals for 34-year-old Shain Widdersheim and 44-year-old Zaryl Bush, according to The (Youngstown) Vindicator (http://bit.ly/1tYRYa4 ).

Widdersheim's son, Teddy Foltz, died in January 2013, five days after a beating he received from Bush.

Bush was sentenced to 33 years to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges including murder. Widdersheim was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to endangering children and tampering with evidence.

A judge sentenced Bush and Widdersheim in excess of the sentences recommended by prosecutors. The defendants claimed in the appeal that the judge abused his discretion.
