1 dead after Madison County plant explosion


HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — Authorities are investigating a fatal explosion at a plant in Huntsville.

Madison County Sheriff's Office Investigator Jeremy Hughes tells ( ) that authorities were called to the Giles & Kendall CedarSafe plant after an explosion Tuesday morning that killed a male employee. No other injuries have been reported.

The plant produces wooden closet liners, planks and panels.

Hughes says a hazardous materials team was called to the building and the cause of the explosion is under investigation.

Local media reported that firefighters were also called to the plant when cedar chips ignited on Saturday.
