Man who broke an arm while escaping jail in Fort Dodge gets 15 years in prison


FORT DODGE, Iowa — A man who broke an arm while climbing out of a vent to escape the Webster County Jail been given 15 years in prison.

The Messenger reports ( ) that 32-year-old George Johnson was sentenced on Monday in Webster County District Court. He'd pleaded guilty on Nov. 3 to charges of escape from custody and criminal mischief.

Johnson and Jason Sullivan escaped the jail in Fort Dodge in August while doing laundry. They used sheets they tied together as a makeshift rope to escape through a vent. Johnson fell three stories and was taken to a hospital.

Sullivan was captured a few days later and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
